The International English Language Testing System which is popularly known as IELTS is the world’s most popular English proficiency test for higher education and global migration. It is trusted by many organisations globally. IELTS continues to set the standard for English language testing till date. Governments of Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Australia use IELTS to process immigration applications.
IELTS has been developed by language experts and it tests the full range of English skills needed for the success in a new job or study placement abroad. There are two types of IELTS test, general and academic. Academic IELTs are taken by those who wish to go abroad for higher studies. It measures the level of English language proficiency suitable for an academic environment. It is used to evaluate whether you are ready to begin training or studying.
On the other hand, general IELTS is taken by those who wish to go abroad for work purposes. It measures English language proficiency in a practical or everyday context. Both general and academic tests have the same modules. The difference lies in the exam pattern. IELTS exams are conducted by British council.
The scores are based on band. The highest band being 9 and lowest being 1. The levels can also be classified on a learning base and on CEFR basis. Clearing IELTS with a high band can boost your confidence, get you better placements and even help in getting scholarships.

What is the pattern of the exam?
The exam has 4 parts. Reading and listening module will have 40 questions generally. It comprises multiple-choice questions, true or false, match the following and give titles. Writing has two questions. If it’s for academics it would be graph and general essay. For general it would be a letter and general essay. The speaking tests are divided into 3 parts. It has an introduction followed by cue cards and some follow up questions based on that.
What is the duration of the exam?
The duration of the exam is 4 hours. One hour for each module. It is not necessary that it would be on the same day. Exams can be spread over two days or divided between morning and afternoon. It would be a combination of 2 modules. Speaking tests generally get covered in 15 to 20 minutes however that depends on your test centres.
How should I register for the IELTS exam?
You can register for the IELTS exam through the British council official website.
The IELTS scores are valid for 2 years.
No, we conduct only IELTS training. Students have to register with British council to take exams. However, we can guide you with registration.
Once you take the exam, results come within 2 weeks. It would also be available on the official website of British council.
